INVOLVEMENT
Possibly, you ask yourself "What can I do to help improve the contracts by which we work and live?". Following are just a few simple steps you can take to make a positive impact:
1. DON'T BUY NON-UNION:
Are you aware of the fact that you wield one of the most powerful weapons in the world? We're talking about the power of the almighty dollar. Daily, you choose to spend your dollars on one product or another. Whereas, you may be tempted to buy the same item, product, or service at the lowest price available, please remember two important facts:
A. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR:
How many times have you been dissatisfied at the purchase of an inferior product or service, and then realized you could have paid a little more, and would have been completely satisfied? I know that I have learned this one the hard way.
B. THE JOB YOU SAVE MAY BE YOUR OWN:
I know that you've heard this slogan before, but please allow me to spell it out for you. The more you buy products that are made in other countries, especially communist countries, the more you are personally shifting economical power to those countries, and away from ours. When economical power shifts out of our great nation, the system of free enterprise takes over, and it becomes more economical to produce in third world countries and sell in the U.S. at record profits. Here-in lies our dilemma: The cost of doing business in this manner is that although the corporations/companies are doing well, there is more unemployment in America, as our production jobs get exported in unbelievably large quantities to other countries, our standards of living are decreased, and ultimately, we wind up working for a living at a greatly reduced rate for the (newly communist-based) foreign companies/corporations here in our country of origin. Who, in their right mind, desperately wants to work much harder for much less money?
2. BUY UNION:
There are so many products which we purchase and use on a daily basis that it just makes sense to buy the ones which we know for a fact are union-made right here in America. For example, did you know if you want to satisfy your itch for chocolate, Nestle' products are made by I.A.M. brothers and sisters? 3. Help Organize:
It’s one thing to tell prospective members what you can do for them. It’s quite another to bring them proof of what an IAM contract can provide.
Sometimes it’s just a matter of reminding people of the difference a union contract can make:
We also need to get our current members invested in the idea that their
contracts are valuable, and that the best way to protect their wages
and benefits is to have lots of company in surrounding facilities.
